There are two sessions for the event at the Sizewell B Visitor Centre on Saturday 6 December at 10.30am and 1.30pm which will give those interested in the scheme a chance to find out more from the sites’ own apprentices.

The oversubscribed apprenticeship scheme is now open for applications, which must be submitted through EDF Energy’s website by mid January. The four-year training programme starts in September 2015.

Sizewell B currently employs 37 apprentices, and will be looking to take on up to six more this year. A further 17 apprentices completed the apprenticeship programme and have started roles within the maintenance and operations departments.

Roger Barge, Sizewell B apprentice coordinator said: “In the current climate, an apprenticeship offers a real alternative to going to university and so we are getting more and more applications from those who have done A-levels.

“The apprenticeship scheme is very highly regarded and there really is no limit to where our apprentices could go in terms of a career within EDF Energy.”

The four-year scheme starts with two years at the training facility at HMS Sultan, the apprentices return to Sizewell B for the final two years of their training.

Jim Crawford, Sizewell B station director, said: “Having some of our team there on the day will give people a chance to find out how apprentices feel about the scheme.

“I have seen how well the apprentices do here on site when we get them back from their first two years at the training centre at HMS Sultan.

“Many move on to become team leaders, but can really go as far they want. Many members of EDF Energy’s executive team started with the company as apprentices.”
