South Bruce, Huron-Kinloss remain on shortlist for storage project

South Bruce and Huron-Kinloss are still on the shortlist of Canadian municipalities that may host an underground nuclear disposal facility, Blackburn News reported.

The municipalities need to narrow their focus now and align with the long-term vision of their communities as they prepare for highly detailed studies and engagement, according to Kathryn Shaver, vice president of engagement and site selectionat the Nuclear Waste Management Organization.

This represents the third of nine steps in a process to evaluate the suitability of communities to host the underground storage project. David Inglis, mayor of Brockton – a town in Bruce County – said that all available information about a potential storage facility was planned to be reviewed in December by the new council.
